Adopting a Family or Individual through Ozone House

Families or individuals who are in need of “adoption” around the holidays are varied in composition and reason for the need. Times are tight and the current economic situation hits most of our Ozone families and individuals extra hard. And it just seems to keep getting worse out there, so sometimes the same families or individuals are affected repeatedly by the worsening economic times!

Many of our clients are young parents of infants &/or toddlers, struggling to continue their education while maintaining housing and basic household needs, while others are not doing as well as this and are dealing with homelessness. These youth come to Ozone House for help building their independent living skills and for counseling.

Still others are families with a teen who come to Ozone House for counseling. Some of these folks are facing economic challenges due to job layoffs, home foreclosure, death or illness of a family member, mental health or substance abuse of one parent in the household, domestic violence that causes the family to separate, and homelessness.

Whatever the reasons for the economic struggle, the stress and expectations of the winter holidays pose a very difficult and seemingly insurmountable challenge to some of the families in situations described above. Your contribution to this program brings priceless relief to our clients in need!

*Lots of people decide to “adopt” a family or individual at Ozone House as a yearly family tradition, or as a group of coworkers at a local business. We have had schools, sororities, individuals, nurse’s stations – you name it –involved with helping. However you can help make this work best for you is much appreciated. It all happens because of the generosity of individuals.

How it works:

Ozone House case managers and therapists will get “wish lists” from families or individuals involved with our services who have the highest need. You will be matched based on the size of family that you feel you can afford to “adopt” for the holidays. You will get their “wish list” and then the fun starts – because you get to go shopping. We will arrange for a drop off date for you to bring in your wrapped gifts to Ozone House so we can distribute them before the holidays.
