JOB TRAINING
WorkZone
Job hunting can seem overwhelming when, for so long, your focus has been on finding a safe space to sleep at night. That’s why Ozone House created WorkZone, an employment training and paid internship program so homeless or at-risk youth, ages 18-20, can prepare for their first job.
Need skills and a job? At WorkZone, you get job training, a job coach, a case manager and a PAID internship.
Here’s how it works:
The first two weeks is training on:
- Finding a career you are good at
- Finding a job you like
- Resume writing
- Interviewing
- Succeeding in your job
- Getting promoted
- Working with your boss
Next is the Internship where you get:
- A 100-hour paid internship at a local business, nonprofit or company
- Meetings and support from others in WorkZone
Throughout the whole program, you meet with:
- A job coach to help you with the internship and your job search
- A case manager to help you with anything else you need, like housing, child care, insurance, food, etc.

Career Panel
Are you a youth between 13-20 and want to find out about different career paths? Attend a Career Panel. Career Panels take place the third Thursday of the month at the Drop-In Center in Ypsilanti. Stop by at 5pm and meet local professionals who will share their expertise and answer your questions. It is a casual setting with two-way dialog. Perhaps you need some inspiration as you seek your first job or can use some helpful tips that local professionals have learned along the way. Food will be served.
LEADERSHIP
Need leadership skills and work experience?
The Peer Outreach will return this Winter
Each year we have a Street Outreach Team of approximately 5-8 trained Peer Outreach Workers (POW’s). This group is made of up youth, ages 15-19, that demonstrate leadership qualities. They provide homeless and high-risk youth with on-the-street support and information. POWs have an in-depth understanding of Ozone House services and why youth may need these services.

The Leadership Institute
The Leadership Institute is a one week program, offered twice per year, based at the Drop-In Center. This program offers young people an opportunity to participate in workshops on topics like public speaking, personal finance and credit management, creative expression, team building, community resources, and education. Youth are involved in all aspects of the Institute, from planning to implementation.
The Leadership Institute will:
- Offer enhanced leadership and community engagement opportunities for high-risk youth ages 13-18 in Washtenaw County
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Increase youth’s safety
- Enhance financial literacy and other life skills
- Enable and empower youth to pursue employment opportunities
