How do your dollars make a difference?

• $5000 provides intensive 1:1 support for a year to a young person living independently
• $1000 provides family therapy for a family experiencing high levels of conflict
• $500 provides shelter, meals, skills training, and counseling for a young person in Safe Stay
• $250 supplies a training stipend, work clothing, and transportation for a youth in WorkZone
• $150 provides 24-hour emergency help to a youth or family in crisis
• $50 supplies a youth with a state ID card, school transcripts, and other vital records

Kicked Out Fund for LGBTQ+ Youth

Ozone House provides shelter and support to hundreds of young people in our community each year. Roughly 1 in 4 of these young people seek help because their sexual orientation has led to unsafe situations at home, at school or in the community.

A contribution to the Kicked Out Fund supports Ozone House’s work on behalf of local LBGTQ youth. The fund supports our 24/7 Crisis Line – one of the first places young people in crisis turn to find support and safety. The fund also supports PrideZone, a weekly support group for LGBTQ youth. This group meets weekly at Ozone House’s Ypsilanti location and provides a safe place for LGBTQ youth to congregate, socialize, build community, and access services.

Learman Higher Education Fund

Jeanne and Joe Learman, long-time friends of Ozone House, made a generous gift to initiate an Education Fund at Ozone House. This fund is available to finance a variety of educational expenses that Ozone House clients incur that are not typically covered by financial aid and scholarships – books, supplies, technology, extra-curricular fees, housing deposits, etc. Having an Education Fund specifically designated for Ozone House clients helps make the goal of a continued education beyond high school possible for many young people who do not have the resources or parental support that it takes to apply to college.

The K-12 Education Project

In a joint partnership with the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Ozone House oversees the daily administration of the Education Project. This program is designed to ensure that students experiencing homelessness or unstable living situations enroll, regularly attend, and stay in school.

The Education Project relies on a combination of grant support from the state and donations from members of the community.

The Education Project works closely with liaisons in the school districts, allies within each school, community partners, and families to identify and serve all youth affected by homelessness.

For those 70.5 years and older, you can give any amount (up to a maximum of $100,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Ozone House without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $100,000 or less are eligible for this benefit and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference here at Ozone House. You may also see this IRA charitable rollover referred to as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD).
